Distractions →← Not sure what's going on.

First things first. I have to admit, I wasn’t sure anyone was actually going to find this blog, or that people would care enough to leave comments. I guess I was wrong — I’ve had trouble keeping up with all of the messages of concern and advice you’ve all sent me. I promise I’m reading them, though, and I’ll try to respond if I can.

Unfortunately, that’s about the only good news I’ve had so far. It’s now been four days since I got Sam’s message… and five days since she left it, as one of you pointed out to me. I was so upset about her message that I didn’t even pay attention to the date at the beginning.

I still can’t reach anyone.

That means there’s not a lot to report, I guess. Like me, Kristen was surprised so many of you read the blog (and apparently a little scared, at first, since a lot of you offered to be friends with her on Facebook). She agrees that it’s a good idea, though, if only because it makes me feel like I’m doing something.

When I told her I was going to start the blog, she joked that most people probably wouldn’t even believe that Piedmont exists, since it’s impossible to find on a map. And I guess she’s right… from your comments, apparently most of you have never heard of Piedmont. It makes sense, though: if you aren’t from Piedmont, or the next town – which is well over 40 miles away – there’s pretty much no reason you would have.

Since a lot of you asked, though: the entire town of Piedmont, Utah, has a population of 183. 182, since I left for college…though the Ritters had a little girl just after Christmas, so I guess that evens it out. Aside from the occasional birth or death, though, not much ever changes in Piedmont. It’s an old mining town in southeastern Utah, so there are a lot of mountains, and a handful of nice camping areas up along the Henry River. It’s a small town, even as small towns go. We’ve got a single bakery, a single bar, and only one main road. And all the standard small-town staples: a neighborhood gossip, a town drunk, an old war veteran.

Until I left to come to Cal, I lived in Piedmont my entire life. At first, people here thought I came from an isolated town of rednecks. We’re not, though, and Piedmont isn’t so much isolated as self-reliant. Most of the folks living in Piedmont grow up there, get married there, and never end up leaving. For a lot of them, there’s no good reason to go anywhere else.

So there you go, that’s Piedmont. Hopefully that’ll help…

  1. I have a few things to say and one question. First for those of you who can’t here the voice recording, you may have to turn the volume up to hear it. I couldn’t here anything at first either! Be warned though, It is very creepy.

Second, It sounds to me like someone(your mother??)is saying “MY BABIES KEEPER”Then the scream.I’ll keep trying to see if I can here anything else.

I think you should visit or at least call someone in one of the towns,or go to a mountain top with a good pair of binoculars to get a view of Piedmont from a distance.Trying to get into Piedmont itself will be a lost cause with the guards around it. If Jess could get his dad to do a fly over that would probably be the best thing.

Then my question is, where is the video about this website?I’d like to view it.

  2. Just posting to see if this blog is manufactured by a TV show or if a post like this will actually get through. If it does show up, I think that’s proof some network admin isn’t filtering posts.

  3. Okay, I usually jump to the conclusion of government cover up in cases like this (because it’s more likely then most people know), but I do have another theory: It may have been that something happened in the town (a tornado, flood, earthquake, chemical spill, zombie outbreak, etc.) that your mom saw on the news or caught word of or maybe even witnessed somehow. At which point she panicked and rushed into the kitchen or wherever your sister was, pushing things out of the way (namely furniture) or maybe grabbed your sister and hid undera table or something. In otherwords, maybe it’s not as far out there as most of us are thinking. Maybe it was something along the lines of what I just stated, and the incident cause a knockout of communications. If not that, maybe the people are all safely somewhere where they can’t be reached. Of course, that doesn’t explain why one of the commenters on here (sorry, I don’t recall his/her name off the top of my head) couldn’t get an emial through with the word Piedmont in it. But, just my theory of possibility. Trying to stay logical here. (if possible)

  6. I think they are transporting the remains from the Rozwell UFO crash of 60 years ago to Piedmont because the lease ran out and they need another warehouse and the building in Piedmont was the cheapest they could find for a long term lease. I THINK

  8. Man, this is freaky.. Sounds like the city just dissapeared. Getting a group of people together and going there is your only option. Make sure you have contacts on the outside and friends with talents to go with you. Make sure you dont go alone, and take a cam with you to have a visual report on whats going on. Good luck!

  9. Dude, that’s some pretty weird stuff going on. I just finished reading through your entries and tried to put myself in your shoes. I would freak the F out too if I received a voicemail like that. let’s hope that chemical spill has nothing to do with it. I smell government cover up - they’re always doing thing like that to hide their tracks. Be cautious. hope this turns out to be some communication issue with the town.

  11. wow man this does sound pretty freaky but something puzzles me….and that is the fact that you havent heard of nothing yet. Obviously this is getting pretty big if its on tv. Someone FOR SURE must have checked it out, news, authorities, individuals etc….I dont know but surely a stuation like this would never be aloud to go on this far without beeing looked after.

  12. This is really strange. I hope that everything turns out all right for you, and that your family is fine. If you need any help of any sort, I’d be glad to try to relieve the strain of the experience…

  13. Five days is a long time for anything to be ‘unreachable’. From what I’ve gathered there’s been absolutely no response from any queries launched into investigating Piedmont. This alone would be cause to worry and speculate on just what is and is not happening; the results from such speculations can be varied and often times fanatical. However, the might not be so far fetched if no one can get any information.

I don’t believe going to Piedmont by yourself or even with your girlfriend in tow would be a good idea. Contacting someone with authority should be a last resort right now. You should try to find out what’s going on independently for the next little while. This is purely cautionary. Also, if you plan to go to Piedmont…tell people. Tell more than just your friends. Tell your Professors, your classmates, and even leave notice with the local authorities. You may think it a bit extreme or laugh it off but this is sound advice.

Radios, CBs preferably, two-ways as well, will be your friend. Cell phones? Not so much but if you can try to take two per person. Also, provisions should be carried with you. Got a pack? Fill it up my friend…you’re going to need it. This is survivalist training and experience speaking; you’ll need to be self-sufficient if you are going to go.

Perhaps we’re all getting a little bit ahead of ourselves and things aren’t really wrong…

    Worst case scenarios, my friend.

  14. I believe the message sounded like your mother and sister was alright until something or someone caused a horrific altercation. This is a computer and cell phone world we live in, so I’m willing to bet one or more branches of the government knows information about this. That is where I would start.

  15. Heard your story..brother saw a commercial about this site sounds scary. Well im a writer (not published yet) but i wanted to know if I could use this epidemic for a story. Im asking because i didnt know if it would upset you or not. P.S. I really hoppe that you find out what happened. If you want my advice, i suggest you gather up a charity and raise money to travel to Piedmont be sure to bring authrities or contact them once in an airport. Best of Luck.

  16. I’m so glad to hear from you again!!!I don’t want you to misunderstand my curiosity as a stoic lack of concern, ok?!
Not being able to reach your family or anyone in the town is
a mystery that I cannot resist.I pray for you and everyone in
the town of Piedmont.I have been inquiring of all that I know
and I just feel as if there is a reasonable explanation for all
of this.Be encouraged that “no news, is good news”
